Management of contacts: cruise ship outbreak 2026
The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends contacts of Andes virus (ANDV) cases should be classified into high- or low-risk categories based on their exposure risk.[76]
High-risk contacts should undergo daily active monitoring in a designated facility or home quarantine for 42 days after the last known exposure. High-risk contacts should avoid contact with other people and follow the guidance from their local public health authority.
Low-risk contacts should undergo daily passive self-monitoring for symptoms for 42 days after the last known exposure. Low-risk contacts have no restrictions, but should isolate if they develop symptoms compatible with hantavirus infection.
