Emerging treatments

Trials of favipiravir, an antiviral drug that inhibits viral replication, indicated potential benefit in both children and adult Ebola virus disease patients with lower Ebola viral loads or when used as combination therapy. There are currently no studies on this therapy in Marburg virus disease, but if successful in treating Ebola virus disease it may be considered as treatment for Marburg virus disease as well.[55][56] Animal studies have demonstrated improved survival in non-human primates with Marburg virus infection treated with intravenous favipiravir.[57]
