Emerging treatments
Magnesium sulfate
Magnesium sulfate may have a bronchodilatory effect and therefore a potential role as an adjunctive treatment in COPD exacerbations. According to one Cochrane review, an intravenous infusion of magnesium sulfate may reduce the risk of hospitalization, shorten the length of hospital stay and improve dyspnea in patients with COPD exacerbations. However, the evidence is limited and results should be interpreted with caution.[258]
