Drug therapy
While some existing medications appear to help with paralytic poliomyelitis and/or postpoliomyelitis syndrome, such as pyridostigmine, corticosteroids, amantadine, lamotrigine, and others, there have been an insufficient number of randomized clinical trials to fully recommend the use of these agents.[51][52] Treatment with immune gamma globulin from recovered poliomyelitis patients has been previously reported, with some promise.[53] Due to a variety of limitations, further development was halted in favor of effective vaccination with oral attenuated poliovirus vaccine (OPV) (Sabin) and inactivated poliovirus vaccine (IPV) (Salk).
