The patient should be advised to complete the full prescribed course of antibiotics to ensure eradication of pertussis. Patients should be advised to stay away from healthcare, childcare, and school settings until they have completed the minimum recommended duration of antimicrobial treatment specified by local public health guidelines (this is 5 days in the US and 48 hours in the UK), or for 21 days from the onset of their cough if untreated.[1]Havers FP, Moro PL, Hariri S, et al.
