Definition

Sua função primária é resistir a forças em valgo (torção para fora afastando-se da linha média) e a forças de rotação externas da tíbia em relação ao fêmur. O mecanismo da lesão do ligamento colateral medial é tipicamente uma grande força em valgo e/ou uma força de rotação externa que é subitamente aplicada à articulação do joelho. Lesões do ligamento colateral medial variam em gravidade desde uma ruptura de algumas fibras até o rompimento completo do ligamento.
