Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is a clinical diagnosis. Distinguishing between classic (idiopathic) trigeminal neuralgia (CTN) and symptomatic TN (STN) is done through history taking, clinical examination (to identify non-trigeminal neurological signs), and neuroimaging, which may identify a cause in up to 15% of patients.
