Practical EBM tools

The EBM toolbox provides checklists which can act as memory aids for the evaluation of studies. These will help evaluate how much weight can be put on study results and how far we can generalize the results from trials into routine practice to inform clinical care.

You can also access statistical calculators which will allow you to sense-check the validity of claims made by authors about the data they report and at the same time learn about the effect measures for therapeutic RCTs (RR, ARR, NNT), diagnostic studies (sensitivity, specificity, PPV, NPV, likelihood ratio), case-control studies (OR), and cohort studies (RRs).

A glossary of EBM and health economic terms, as well as commonly used EBM and statistical abbreviations, are also included here.

Further reading and additional EBM resources are also available.
