Patient discussions

Patients can be started on a clear liquid diet on the same day as the operation if there is no nausea or vomiting and can start a regular diet the next day. Patients are usually advised to take at least 1 week off work or school. Future level of activity, including driving and return to work, should be determined at the follow-up appointment. All patients should be advised to contact their doctor if they develop persistent or increasing pain, vomiting or fevers. If managed operatively, they should be advised to seek medical advice if they develop swelling or redness at the site of the wound, or drainage from the wound.[168]
