Cellulitis

Summary

  • Acute infectious disorder of skin characterised by erythema, oedema, warmth, and tenderness; commonly in an extremity.
  • Prior episodes of cellulitis, pre-existing lymphoedema or venous insufficiency, and tinea pedis can all predispose to this condition.
  • Antibiotics targeted at the most common aetiologies (streptococci and Staphylococcus aureus) usually result in resolution.
