2009 Influenza A (H1N1) virus

Secondary prevention

The best prevention is to avoid people infected with the influenza virus, who should be advised to stay home for at least 24 hours after resolution of fever without the use of antipyretics (or if hospitalised, 7 days after onset of illness or 24 hours after fever resolves, whichever is longer). Frequent hand washing and covering of the nose and mouth when sneezing or coughing will decrease risk of transmission. [27] Where appropriate, prophylactic treatment should be given.
